About Us

Schreiber Publishing started in 1997 as a provider of language and translation books. A year later it acquired Shengold Publishers, a Judaica publisher in New York. Since then, Schreiber has published over 100 titles in both fields, many of which have been reprinted in several editions. Schreiber now operates two divisions: SchreiberLanguage and SchreiberJudaica. The mission of SchreiberLanguage is to provide language reference books to improve global communications in the twenty-first century. The mission of SchreiberJudaica is to offer books that enrich Jewish life and bring Jews, Christians, Muslims and others closer together.

SchreiberJudaica

Schreiber's Judaica books are a successor to Shengold Publishers, which published hundreds of Judaica titles in New York City for about 50 years, beginning in the mid-1950s. Schreiber's Judaica has an active list of close to 100 Judaica titles, covering such areas as history, Bible, current affairs, biography, reference books, children's books, and more. Several of these books have become modern classics, and are now being updated and reissued by popular demand. The most recent examples are the Shengold Jewish Encyclopedia, a successor to the Junior Jewish Encyclopedia, which for 50 years has been one of the most popular books on the American Jewish scene, and Blessed Is the Daughter . New favorites are The Jewish World in Stamps and Ask the Bible.

SchreiberLanguage

Schreiber publishing specializes in language reference books. It is the only U.S. publisher dedicated to the translation profession. Founded in 1994 by Mordecai Schreiber, founder and president of Schreiber Translations, Inc.--one of the leading language services companies in the U.S.--it is best known for its The Translator's Handbook, now in its sixth revised edition, and for its many specialized dictionaries. In addition, Schreiber Publishing provides training materials for translators in ten languages, as well as other language reference books. Several of Schreiber's language books are now used in language and translation college and university courses in the U.S. and around the world.

General Interest

Schreiber occasionally publishes books of general interest. One recent example is the book Discovering the C&O Canal, a full-color illustrated guide to one of America's favorite national parks. Other examples are Netwit.Com, a book of humor, and Light to the Nations, about the pursuit of world peace.
